The 7-Day Epidemiologist Prorgram

The 7-Day Epidemiologist Prorgram

Program Overview

Learn the science and practice of  how and why diseases spread in populations. When you learn to use the tools of epidemiology, you learn how to prevent and control diseases, including COVID-19, malaria, TB, diabetes, cancer, etc.

COVID-19 has shown how important Epidemiology is. Every health professional needs to know and use the tools of epidemiology to gather and interpret health data. This program is an introduction to epidemiology and health service research that allows participants to learn the basic tools of epidemiology. The program is organized using Epichats, a method developed by Dr Elvira Beracochea to make it simple to learn and use epidemiology. Epichats is based on a number of conversations that through question and answer help you understand and use epidemiological terms and methods.

In this program, you will learn how to gather data and analyze health problems,  and use the data to improve disease prevention and control programs. Participants also learn the role of health services research and epidemiology in health policy, health service delivery, as well as health planning, and evidence-based management and clinical practice.

You will learn how to design epidemiological studies, analyze secondary data, develop your own judgment when analyzing evidence and evaluating impact of programs on health outcomes, either in domestic or international settings.  You will learn how to describe various epidemiological methods used in the study of diseases, health conditions and healthy and risk behaviors, and the application of epidemiology as part of disease surveillance systems and health management information systems (HMIS) and the International Health Regulations of WHO.

The program includes applications of epidemiology in such areas as infectious diseases, including COVID-19 pandemic, cardiovascular disease, maternal and child health, reproductive health and family planning, cancer, biological and radioactive threats or disasters, nutrition, aging and gerontology and the role of epidemiology in health services research. You will learn how to interpret data and study of a disease or condition of your choice so you can apply what you learn to your area of work or organization.
